Bávaro is a place in the Verón Punta Cana municipal district of the municipality of Higüey in the province of La Altagracia, Dominican Republic. It was originally conceived as a dormitory town for the workers of the Punta Cana tourist complex, but it has been transformed into a center of tourist services due to the hotel expansion towards the north of Punta Cana, around Bávaro beach; thus becoming an important tourist area of the country. In the whole area there are dozens of hotels, among which stand out those of Spanish investment, such as Riu, Iberostar, Be Live Grand Punta Cana, Meliá, Barceló, Palladium, Catalonia or Bahía Príncipe. The area also has several nightclubs such as: Oro at Hard Rock Hotel, Imagine, Mangú or Pachá, which liven up the party nights of tourists. Numerous tourist attractions have been installed, some of a certain size such as the Manatí Park in Bávaro, an aquatic park with manatees, dolphins and other kinds of animals. For tourists, the Punta Cana beach area is more popular because it is more affordable at international prices. However, Bavaro maintains the exclusivity and elegance that give it the title of best Caribbean beach. According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Republic has invested more than 1.5 billion dollars in tourism, equivalent to some 50,985 million Dominican pesos, representing a remarkable growth in this branch and consolidating tourism in the Dominican Republic as one of the best in the world. From Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) alone, more than 2,000,000 tourists and more than 5 million passengers in general enter the country each year.
